About  Keeper

In a world with an insatiable appetite for the new, drowning in abundance yet thirsty for substance, we choose to keep.

We choose the stories of generations over the tales of fast fashion.

We rescue exquisite pieces, many bound for the melting pot, breathing new life into their one-of-a-kind presence.

We are The Keepers.

Jewellery for centuries, not seasons.

Together, we will save them.

Hi, I’m Hannah.

You might have found Keeper via my Instagram account, Half a Hall. Which is probably the best place to start to tell you my tale. But if you haven’t then listen in, there’s plenty to share…

Treasure Seeker. Treasure Hunter. Treasure Finder.

Whatever the description, I’ve always had this magnetism for the old, interesting and understated. On the lookout for pieces to save and breathe new life into. I don’t know where this feeling comes from; was I born with it? Maybe…

I can’t pinpoint when it started but I do remember one day, in my grandparent’s garden, probably about 8 years old, I found a big bunch of keys buried in the ground, all gnarly and old and forgotten. Right next to a gate post. I kept them for years, and my imagination would take me into places of wonder. Where were they for? Who did they belong to? How old were they?

My curious nature has always been within.

Fast forward a few decades, and I began renovating old hall after old hall, and found myself entranced by the wonders of fairs, markets, thrift and charity shops showcasing all sorts. The weird and the wonderful. The ‘don’t touch that, it’s 500 years old’ to the ‘you don’t want to know where this has been!’. And here the joy of collecting pieces of the past to dress my home became my most favourite thing to do.

Items holding their own secrets, stories we will never know.

Getting deeper into this captivating world, I began to see areas that made me feel, well quite frankly, pissed off. I watched what I’m going to describe as ‘magpies’ weighing gold and precious pieces over the jewellery counters. The curiosity in me questioning the shop assistant about their activities.

‘Oh dear, it’s quite terrible really. There are many people that purchase these beautiful pieces of old jewellery, weigh up the gold, buy them and then just, well, melt them down.’

What? So these pieces of history, craftsmanship and beauty are just bought, and melted, and gone. Just like that. Gone.

So, if you’ve read this far, I hope you’re feeling the same feels.

And so, my mission became apparent.

⭑ Save the history ⭑

⭑ Save the craftsmanship ⭑

⭑ Save the jewellery ⭑

⭑ And how do we save? ⭑

★ We keep ★

Gold is a commodity. Invest to wear it best, or not. Just keep it. You don’t need to melt gold down to appreciate its worth. Gold is gold. It will always have a value, it just feels a bit nicer than sat as a bullion bar stacked up in a safe somewhere.

But you, my dear Keeper friend, get to wear it. And extend its story.

So let’s Keep. For centuries, not seasons.

And join me on my mission to preserve the past, and extend their legacies way into centuries ahead.

I hope you enjoy wearing them or even staring at them, as much as I have collecting them for you.

So go seek. And Keep.

Much love.
